Agroforestry and Touristy in Beautiful Bukidnon

Sustainability in Agroforestry and Eco-Touristry in Mindanao

A Christ-Centered Model for Intercropping in Bukidnon. Nestled in the fertile highlands of Mindanao, Jessie’s Sunshine Farm exemplifies Christ-centered sustainable farming. In spite of a carefully designed agro-forestry and intercropping system, our farm combines hybrid coconuts, fruit trees, and high-value intercrops. This said, we create a productive, resilient landscape that honors the Lord Jesus Christ as the source of every blessing and harvest.

Therefore, beyond cultivation, the farm embraces eco-tourism and educational agriculture, offering visitors a hands-on experience of sustainable farming practices, tropical fruit production, and integrated agroforestry. This unique approach demonstrates how faith, stewardship, and environmental sustainability can grow together in the heart of Mindanao.

🌿 Vision: Stewardship for God’s Creation

At Jessie’s Sunshine Farm, we believe farming is more than livelihood—it is a form of worship and stewardship. Our mission is to cultivate the land with excellence, integrity, and gratitude, ensuring. Therefore, every tree, plant, and product reflects God’s abundance and goodness.

Through carefully designed intercropping and multi-canopy agroforestry, the farm sustains soil health, nurtures biodiversity, and provides for both the local community and future generations.

🌴 Coconut Farming as Our Foundation

Coconuts are the heart and strength of Jessie’s Sunshine Farm. We are considering to serve as a Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) accredited mother farm. Hence we focus on cultivating Catigan Dwarf, Tacunan Dwarf, and several hybrid coconut varieties ideally suited to Mindanao’s rich volcanic soil and favorable climate.

We have planted around 800 coconut trees. We are planning for more. Overall, the farm is being developed into a center of excellence for coconut production and propagation.

Current and Planned Products:

  • Seedlings for distribution to local farms and cooperatives
  • Copra, husk, and shell products
  • Fresh young coconut (buko) juice
  • Value-added coconut oil, charcoal, and organic fertilizer

To support these goals, we are constructing a comprehensive production complex. Furthermore, It must have a warehouse, drying area, processing area, packaging center, and a future training hub for farmers.

🌳 Multi-Canopy Intercropping: A Living Testament of Growth

Our multi-canopy agroforestry system demonstrates how diversity and harmony can flourish together. Accordingly, as in God’s creation. Therefore, each layer of the farm plays a special role in nurturing the land and maximizing yield.

First Canopy: The Towering Protectors

Our coconut trees rise as the first canopy. As a result, they are providing essential shade, moisture retention, and protection from strong winds.

Second Canopy: The Fruitful Layer

Beneath the coconuts grows a vibrant mid-level of large fruit trees. Indeed, forming a rich, productive canopy filled with color and life:

  • Lanzones – sweet, seasonal fruit loved across Mindanao
  • Mango (Cebu and Indian varieties) – a symbol of tropical abundance
  • Rambutan – beautiful, juicy, and full of flavor
  • American Lime – aromatic, versatile, and ideal for both local and export use
  • and many more

These fruit trees not only diversify harvest income but also create natural shade for the crops below and enhance soil fertility through fallen leaves and organic matter.

Third Canopy: The Understory Crops

Closer to the ground, we have smaller fruit-bearing plants and fast-growing crops fill the remaining space. As a result, ensuring continuous productivity and sustainability:

  • Bananas (Latundan, Lakatan, Tinduk, Saba) – steady income generators and excellent soil covers
  • Calamansi – a staple citrus for the local market
  • Coffee (Robusta) – maintained as an understory crop, complementing the fruit trees

Therefore, these layers form a living ecosystem—a testament to how good stewardship and wise design can bring forth abundance year after year.
